Hiking in winter

Winter hiking in the Carinthian Nockberge means 60 km of winter hiking trails. They lead you over untouched fields, through idyllic valleys and along snow-covered hills. It is all about enjoying silence and peace away from busy slopes and without skies or snowboards. Furthermore it is a perfect way of re-find your inner balance without taking too much risk: the road network in the region offers a lot of choices!

A 60km long, prepared road network is ready for you. All you need to do is pack in suitable hiking shoes in order to be able to discover the region by foot. The mountains around Bad Kleinkirchheim and the Nockberge region are characterized by smooth topography which is ideal for this sport. The so called curved hills, the Nocks, hold suitable tracks for beginners and more sophisticated hikers.

Starting at the Church square in Feld am See you head north to the Seestraße (lake street). This easily accessible route is rather linear and spreads out until the village of Erlach at the other end of the lake. There you find the "Erlachwirt" - an ideal location for a pit-stop. The way back to Feld am See proceeds along the promenade path along the lake next to the main road. Especially in winter the village becharms with its romantic scenery.
Snow shoe hiking

Snow shoe hiking in Bad Kleinkirchheim: probably the most enjoyable way of experiencing winter. Fresh air fanatics have plenty of options to trudge over untouched fresh powdersnow.

Whoever wants to leave the offical and groomed roads can replace hiking shoes with snow shoes. This means: Hiking through snow-covered landscape, crossing smooth hills and enjoying decent tracks in the heart of the Alps in Carinthia. The hills in the region are famous for their characteristics of being easily accessible and hikable for everybody. Slowly ascending you can focus on enjoying the panoramic views in this area. The smoothly-curved topography of the Nockberge creates a special atmosphere and benefits to your enjoyment. This traditionl mean of transport - which used to be the only way of moving for farmers in the mountains - is having its "Renaissance".
