Holiday on Ice

When Lake Brennsee freezes over

Fun on the ice. The ice-skating rink right by the hotel and the new artificial "Like-Ice" rink (operated without water or electricity) are the frozen hot spots for little Brennseehof guests. There is always something going on in the company of new playmates and penguins that assist you on your adventure on the slippery terrain.

Only a snowball’s throw away there is Lake Feldsee (also called "Brennsee"), which becomes an enchanting 3.5 km natural ice surface for ice-based activities such as ice-skating, hockey, ice-sailing and Eisstock sport, which is similar to curling.

Ice-hockey. Two teams are quickly found – along with skates, sticks, pucks and helmets – rented free of charge on-site.

Ice stock sport. As soon as the ice freezes over, it’s time for “Eisstockschießen”. Our hotel’s own ice stock facility is one of the places where you can try this traditional form of curling that ranks as a veritable national pasttime, together with fellow guests.

It’s a fun and entertaining sport, easy to learn for all ages, and basically about the honor of buying the first round of drinks after the game.

    Winter walking
    across snow & lake

Holidaymakers at Brennseehof can also look forward to more than 60 km of well-groomed, cleared winter hiking trails, where they can enjoy the magical winter landscape of Carinthia’s Nockberge mountains at a slower pace.

Visitors wishing to venture even further off the hiking trails will quickly swap their hiking boots for snowshoes. The gentle Nockberge mountains offer the best conditions for many beautiful snowshoe hikes up to over 2,000 meters above sea level.

Discover the peace and quiet of winter and enjoy the ascent via untouched slopes and gently rolling hills.

Tip: Before snowshoes became popular sporting equipment, farmers used the traditional wooden-framed variety to trek across the snow throughout the winters. Head out in the company of an experienced Skischule Krainer guide, and get a thorough introduction to snowshoe walking.
